Found in the ceiling of the Port Byron Medical Center was a photo album that appears to show a 1979 reception for a new doctor, Doctor Yellot. Take a walk down memory lane and let me know so I can put names to the faces. The man appears to be Dr. Yellot, and the woman in the middle was his wife. The lady in pink is Linda Marshall.
Photos and information about the village of Port Byron and the town of Mentz, NY. Port Byron is 7 miles north of Auburn and was a village built on the line of the Erie Canal.

View at Hayden's
It is hard to see, but the caption says "View at Hayden's", which would mean that this is now Rt 38 looking to the south, or towards Auburn. Hayden Road would be just behind us. The old highway is still there, although it now serves as a driveway. The power poles follow the line of the old trolley line, and that route was taken over for the new state highway. Looking off in the distance, you can see the bed of the trolley going up the hill. I don't have a date. This photo comes from the Port Byron Telephone Company collection.

Ouch- 1973
We are going to start featuring some photos given to the Society by the phone company. These were from the days of the Port Byron Telephone Co. and show many scenes around the town and village. Our first shows the scene of an accident at the corner of 31 and 38. What is nice is that although the photo is of the damaged light poles, we get to see some buildings that are now gone.

Grace Austin's Class- 1896
This is the second of the photos loaned me by Joni Lincoln. It was very faded, so I did my best to bring it back. I did make out that it was taken in 1896 at the Port Byron School. Grace Austin wrote the pageant that marked Port Byron centennial. She was listed as the Mrs. G. Thomas Powell of Glen Cove, Long Island.
